VidaSphere addresses two connected challenges: limited access to fresh, nutritious food in low-income urban Philadelphia communities, and social isolation among older adults in suburban neighborhoods.
Microgreens are nutrient-dense crops that can be grown quickly in small indoor spaces using minimal water and resources, making them an accessible and sustainable source of fresh produce. Research shows they contain high levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Through VidaSphere, we increase access to microgreens in underserved Philadelphia communities while engaging residents of suburban senior living facilities in growing and distributing them. This model promotes healthier diets, creates meaningful community engagement for older adults, and helps build a more equitable and sustainable local food system.
What started as a small group of students passionate about healthcare has grown into a thriving nonprofit with over 50 members from grades 8 to 11. United by a shared drive to make a difference, we've built a supportive, purpose-driven community of future medical leaders.
